YORK SHOWROOM IS NATIONAL AWARD WINNER
Smith Brothers, the luxury kitchen, bedroom and bathroom showroom in York has been named ‘Showroom of the Year’ at the annual national industry awards. The showroom on Osbaldwick Link Road took the title at the BM Awards for Excellence 2011, held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. Hosted by former England rugby union captain and world cup winner Lawrence Dallaglio, the event brought together 450 industry representatives to recognise the businesses and individuals who had achieved outstanding results in 2011.
The showroom was recently refurbished and underwent a complete transformation. The aim was to build on the Smith Brothers’ reputation for quality products, experienced designers and excellent customer service, while modernising all aspects of the extensive two storey showroom which includes kitchen, bedroom and bathroom displays along with a newly created ‘tile studio’. After an intense period of upheaval the result is a light, contemporary and open plan showroom environment.
“We have gone back to basics to redesign the showroom, renewing everything from ceiling tiles to lighting and flooring”, says manager Gary McGowan. “Around 90% of our showroom displays have been replaced or fundamentally updated. An ambitious project of this scale would normally take a considerable number of years to complete, but it was vital to achieve our aims and results in a short timescale to generate footfall and boost sales in a challenging marketplace.
“Customer feedback has been exceptional, with many established customers commenting on the high standard of the showroom environment, and how it now lives up to the high standards for which Smith Brothers has always been renowned.”
Having started trading in 1978 Smith Brothers opened their present showroom at this site in 1988 and the business was acquired by local builders merchant, Jackson Building Centres, in 2006. Alongside the showroom Smith Brothers also offer ‘Green renewable energy solutions’ with plumbing and heating products available from the branch where Gary McGowan heads up the 28-strong team.
“It’s a great privilege to receive this industry award and bring it home to Yorkshire, and as soon as I collected the trophy I contacted the team to let them know the good news,” says Gary. “The very next day I gathered everyone together to say a big ‘thank you’ for all the hard work they’ve put in through 2011.
The showroom is something we can all be proud of and our customers are clearly appreciating the new displays as our sales continue to be very strong and we look forward to a very exciting 2012.”
